Few things have been as transformative and healing for me as discovering CBD. The instantly calming, non-psychoactive relief it provides, changed the game on multiple levels and I’m seriously wondering what I did before actively incorporating it into my life. Here are 3 ways in which using CBD changed my life for the better:
Effective Alternative to Anti-Anxiety Meds
When I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder at 19, my psychiatrist swiftly put me on Xanax. For a while, it was the only thing that put a quick end to my debilitating panic attacks. Anxiety symptoms, like a racing heartbeat or uncontrollable shivers, would sometimes plague the most ordinary of days. One passing thought can turn out to be a massive trigger. Anxiety doesn’t care where you are, who you’re with or what you’re doing. When it shows up, it demands you pay attention. Unfortunately, the side effects of my Xanax prescription left me unable to do much else but lay in bed for hours and wait for the day to be over. Not exactly “living” if you ask me. High-THC flower would sometimes exacerbate the unwanted physical symptoms of anxiety, so discovering CBD as a treatment for it was like finding a rare treasure chest. Its anxiolytic properties had very similar effects to Xanax and without the energy-zapping side effects. I could take comfort in knowing that I wouldn’t spiral into a panic attack in public if I had a CBD pen on me at all times. It’s like an EpiPen, but for the mind.[/vc_column_text]
Mercenary For Menstrual Cramps
My ladies know very well how intense moon cycles can be. Usually unpredictable and never convenient, it’s the absolute worst when you’re PMSing while trying to remain a responsible adult. Those cramps can come out of nowhere and before you know it, you’re at work trying not to lash out at a customer because all you can think about is the stabbing pain in your pelvis. It can be difficult to focus on the task at hand and unfortunately it’s just not an option to eat an edible and lay in bed when you’re on the clock. Over-the-counter pain meds can sometimes take a while to kick in, whereas the pain-relieving effects of a CBD vape are more immediate. Waiting 20 minutes for a Tylenol to kick in is just not going to cut it anymore if I can find significant relief after a few puffs.
Antidote to THC Overconsumption
As an active cannabis smoker, I’ve done my fair share of experimenting with pushing the limits of my tolerance. Usually it’s because I’m nibbling on an edible that is too delicious not to scarf down or in a social situation where the blunts are abundant. Regardless, I know exactly when the effects of THC start to become too much. I withdraw from the present moment, become acutely aware of my body temperature, and then start to think of ways I can escape the inevitable psychoactive effects I’m about to endure. Because I’m a long-time cannabis user, I can spot that discomfort from a mile away and a few puffs from a CBD pen is surprisingly effective at curbing that tsunami. Having CBD conveniently on hand means I don’t have to be scared of trying new edibles or enjoying a smoke with friends anymore.
